In the midwest there is definitely a very specific BBQ season. That doesn’t mean that I don’t spend a few winter days cleaning a path through the snow to pull out the grill. In the spring and fall, I love cold smoking a salmon because the temperatures can be ideal. Having the right BBQ Tools for the job can make it easier and way more fun!
Here are a few things that we use and love when we BBQ. I have separated them out in three categories. General tools good for any kind of BBQ, things we use on our Weber Gas Grill and what we have for our Kamado Joe Smoker.
General Tools
We use mats on the BBQ when the grates may be too far apart and you’re worried about losing things, or to cut down on mess. We have two kinds, one with holes (mesh) and one without.
I have found that when BBQing I prefer to have gloves with fingers then oven mitts. They give me more flexibility when moving things around or grabbing pans.
For the Webber Grill (Gas)
Disposable drip trays are a lifesaver! We have a stack of them, and even though we BBQ often they last a while. I have used them both in the underpan of the BBQ and as a smaller pan just under the grate to capture any drips.
Before we got the Kamado Joe, we used a pellet smoker in the gas grill. It is perfect for smaller smoking jobs like wings and cold smoked salmon. I like the variety of pellets you can get, and it’s really easy to use.
For the Kamado Joe (Charcoal Smoker)
We recently bought a Classic III Kamado Joe smoker, and so far we’re loving it. We can’t believe how well it holds the temperature and the flavor it provides to anything we have made is so good! Want to know more about the Kamado Joe? Check out their website https://www.kamadojoe.com/
Lighting charcoal can be a pain in the butt. My dad, who bought his Kamado Joe first, suggested that we get an electric lighter.
Keep checking back, as we spend more time BBQing this summer, and using our new Kamado Joe, we’ll add more to our list of favorite BBQ Tools!
