Steve makes the tortilla’s in our house and he specifically bought a press because he was making them all the time. We always have a bag of masa in the house and he usually recruits the kid to help. When I moved in, he already had the press and he’s spent years trying to perfect them. He always marvels when we travel and see them being made by hand.
Making tortillas from scratch is a lot easier than you think, and it gets even faster when you have a good quality tortilla press. It should be heavy. We have the bigger one because you can always make smaller tortillas with less dough. This is the one we’ve had for years, get it on Amazon here ->
Parchment Rounds
You need to line your press with parchment so the tortillas don’t stick. Tearing parchment is a pain in the butt. The kid said that was the worst part! To make it easer we bought some pre-made parchment rounds. Lifesaver! We’ve actually found a bunch of other uses for them (lining cake tins and spacers between Christmas cookies and frozen foods to name a few!). Get them on Amazon here ->
