As part of our Taste of Home Special Delivery Box we received a stuffed burger press. We have never made a stuffed burger, but the Other Kid loves a burger covered in cheese, so we figured we’d give it a shot! We used our Knier Burger recipe as the basis to make these Cheesy Stuffed Burgers.
Burger Recipe
You can use any burger recipe you want, we used our Knier Burgers as the basis. These are huge burgers though, you need 8oz of burger mix to make one, so we had to double the recipe to get 6 burgers. I found that using our burger mix with the cheese, made a juicy burger that didn’t require any condiments. Which is just the way the Other Kid likes it!
Cheese
You can use any cheese you like to stuff them. Some recipes actually called for shredded cheese. That would probably melt easily, but felt like an additional pain of trying to get it inside the burger. Whatever cheese you choose, just remember to use lots of it, these are Cheesy Stuffed Burgers after all!
Forming the Burgers
We tried using the burger press from our Taste of Home kit, but it was more of a pain than it was worth. Just use your hands, you don’t need a fancy tool here. Start with 4oz of burger meat and make a small patty with a dimple in the center. Add your cheese (we used a piece of cheddar and then wound a mozzarella cheese string around it). Then take another 4oz ball and shape it around the cheese to form a fully sealed patty.
The Verdict
We made these Cheesy Stuffed Burgers for the Other Kid and a friend. They both had more cheese on top… but we live in Wisconsin so that’s just a given! Both kids crushed them, and probably would have had a second if they weren’t so big!
Cheesy Stuffed Knier Burgers
Ingredients
- 3 lbs Ground Beef 80/20 mix
- 2 Egg
- 2 clove Garlic crushed
- 1 Shallot
- 4 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- ½ cup Panko Bread Crumbs
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- 6 oz Cheese
Instructions
- Cut cheese into 1oz portions, or divide shredded cheese into 1oz portions
- Using a box grater, grate your onion over a larger mixing bowl
- Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl and mix with hands until combined, the burgers should be wet, but if they feel too moist add a little more panko.
- Place wax paper or parchment paper on a cookie sheet
- Form 12 approximately 4oz balls with the burger mixture
- Take one 4oz ball and flatten to a burger shape on the cookie sheet, with a dimple in the middle
- Place the cheese in the dimple and take another 4oz ball and shape it over the cheese, working it around to create a burger patty that is completely sealed (you'll likely want to do this in your hands and then place it back on the cookie sheet)We had some mozzarella string cheese that we wound around the cheddar and that added a little extra gooey in the middle!
- Once all six burgers are finished, place the cookie sheet in the fridge for 30 minutes, or 10 minutes in the freezer to firm them up before putting on the grill
- Cook on the BBQ or in a cast iron pan to your desired temperature, they are large burgers with cheese in the center so they will take a little longer than you would expect
- Top with your favorite burger condiments and enjoy!
