Taco Tuesday or Cinco de Mayo calls for the classic lime margarita! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good cerveza, but not as much as I love anything with tequila in it! This recipe cheats, because it uses a pre-made margarita mix. I just never seem to have enough limes in the fridge to make it from scratch. Not all mixes are created equal though so check what you buy! We’ve found a fresh margarita mix in the refrigerated juice section at our grocery. Half the fun can be experimenting with the mix and tequila.
We use whatever tequila we have on hand, and was on sale. We save the good stuff for sipping because by the time you add the lime and triple sec it’s hard to tell the brand of tequila. Try your classic lime margarita with a decent, inexpensive reposado to start and then go from there.
The Mix We Love
Natalie’s Margarita Mix only has 3 ingredients and isn’t too sweet. It’s not just the name (I mean, Natalie… come on!) It has a great lime flavor without that terrible citric acid aftertaste. If you’re making a classic lime margarita and want to taste the edge of that tequila this is perfect, it’s not so strong it completely hides the alcohol. If you want to check it out, and see if you can buy it locally, here’s the link: https://www.orchidislandjuice.com/juices/margarita-mix/
Glassware
I have margarita glasses, but I hate them. They never seem steady (or I’m clutzy) and they don’t hold enough. Seriously, who wants to be getting up every five minutes to get a refill! We use a pint glass. It’s holds a decent amount and works just as well. A rocks glass would work too, just use less mix. However, if you’re like my GG and you “pour large” the bigger glass is the better option – more room for extra tequila! Yes, we know you can make a pitcher and refill your fancy margarita glasses from there, but that makes it feel like we have a problem.
