Fresh, local beer is pretty common today. It seems every town has a couple of different places you can get a local brew. We’ve tried quite a few around the state. The Kid’s hockey team has played in many of the towns in a couple hour radius, and properly paced, there can be time for a flight between games.
The problem is, many of those beers aren’t so great. Not bad, but just nothing really special. We’ve been in many places where we have to keep checking back with the menu to try to identify what we’re drinking. That’s why we’re so fortunate to have The Fermentorium nearby. Their beers are quality, with lots of styles and variations, with a Pilot series of small-batch experiments every few weeks. Don’t get me wrong, some don’t work for us (Pilot 0x53: Lavender Chocolate), but the standard line-up is really strong.
Juice Packets is the Fermentorium’s American style IPA, unfiltered with citrus hops. Great on it’s own, fruit combinations have appeared over the years, including Blackberry (currently available), and historically Pineapple, Pink Guava, and Passion Fruit. But the king – for those looking for that fruity, juicy goodness, is Apricot Juice Packets. Mug Club members spoke in hushed whispers about the potential return last spring, and I was delighted to see it on the menu again for our upcoming BBQ week.
Online ordering while the Fermentorium Tap Room is closed, features growlers of Juice Packets, including Blackberry, Apricot, and Double Dry Hopped (DDH). Cans for carry out are also available. But with half-priced Sunday-Funday pricing, and free beer tokens for returning previous glass growlers, there’s a good reason to dig out your mask and brave the weekend rain for a pickup.
With this kind of a line-up, you can pick up a couple of different flavors, and find what matches best with your BBQ weekend. Classic JP for chicken, Apricot for burgers, and DDH while standing next to the grill. And only two more check-ins on Untapped for the next level badge.
